What is twice as pitiful as a Palestinian? A Nicaraguan Palestinian. Yes, they apparenty exist and are very proud of their confusing, belittled, and tortured past even though they live in impoverished Nicaragua... I don't understand how arab nationalism exists to ANY extent in a poor Central American country.... Can anyone give me a history lesson?

Wow.

Well, apparently, people immigrate to places that arent the United States. Mind boggling, I know.

This post is kind of offensive, but I hope it stays up because it shows some of the attitudes prevalent in the immigration debate.

Nicaragua is the 'pits'. Palestine is even worse. It just seems like a match made in hell...

Still a group of Hispanics who just happen to not to be Mestizo (assuming they were born in Nicaragua). In fact: I know a White Jewish gentleman who is a Mexican............born/raised SOB.

Ever hear of Salma Hayek, the actress? She is a Latina with a Lebanese father.

Part-Latin, part-Lebanese, all hot.

I'd be her cabana boy.

I agree

As for why quite a few 'full blood' Latinos could could pass for Arabic: I suspect their immediate ancestors hailed from southern Spain. Remember that most of the latter nation was under control by ethnic Arabs, etc. till ca. 1492 when Ferdinand and Isabella 'cleaned house'.

Also look at how many Spanish surnames end in -ez............many Arabic ones do as well.

This.

There are large numbers of Arabs in Latin America. This is no secret. Heck, a recent president of Argentina was Lebanese. I'm visiting a friend all next week in Mexico City who lives in what he calls the "Jewish and Lebanese center" of the city. Planning on taking me to the Kosher taco stand on his street (and there are several Hallal stands/restaurants as well). There are also sizable Asian minorities as well. Nothing new.

And under US government guidelines: all of the above would be Hispanics.

How is Arab nationalism flourishing in a poor Latin American country? Nobody has even tried to answer me.
