The Arizona Supreme Court ruled Friday that state investigators have solid legal grounds for inspecting electronic money transfers from other states to Mexico.
The Arizona Attorney General's Office convinced the high court that money wired from outside Arizona to border towns in Sonora was a common payment for smuggling illegal immigrants into Arizona. The court deemed the pattern of payments sufficient legal cause for searching electronic-payment records of wire services such as Western Union Co.
