I doubt it was 'racism' per se but; nationality/legal status (Grant not being a Mexican citizen) went against the patient's interests.

Mexico protects it's taxpayers better. It doesn't provide free health care to anyone who is there illegally.

A better approach than the current one would be to have the Mexican government pay for the health care it's citizens seek here in the USA.

Wait, so are you saying that if a person later found to be an illegal immigrant is forced to go in emergency medical care, that the illegal's government would be billed?

International relations is like the mafia - the sovereign states are the main actors. I'm not sure if Mexico would pay the U.S. if it started billing Mexico like that. Would the U.S. be able to get Mexico to accept these terms?

Also, as in the news story, the hospital in Mexico was supposed to provide emergency medical care for the Nicaraguan illegal

Let's get real here....I doubt anyone's making the point that this is a 'collectible' cost, or that we'd "bill" Mexico for ANYTHING....or that they'd PAY, if we DID bill them.....(It's like 'pulling teeth' to even get them to extradite known murderers, with known addresses).

The point of this story isn't medical care....it's HYPOCRISY...in a mind-boggling, breath-taking amount. Mexico...the very nation which CONTINUALLY insists we 'treat its citizens well' while they're illegally here..which HOWLS about our building a 'border fence'....which CONTINUALLY lobbies OUR lawmakers, while forbidding anyone from here in 'meddle' in its internal affairs.....is now shown to treat ITS illegals quite harshly....locking them up. 'shaking them down', and 'booting them out' on a regular basis.

The 'hospital story' has less to do with medicine than it has to do with sheer, brazen hypocrisy, at an astonishing level....(and also, apparently, a complete immunity to 'shame')....

Incredible.....

Wow! Here in Northern California we even have special clinics that appeal to "Farmworkers" called "Clinic Ole".. I doubt that Mexico has such clinics that appeal to the illegals that cross their border..

.........and, the Karma against Mexico is building.

More and more: we (the USA) will wind up owning Mexico; lock, stock and barrel-------which will mean the end of 'Hispanic' culture if it in any way conflicts with our Anglo-Saxon based one. I am referring to the use of Spanish in particular.

Just a very strong premonition here, nothing more.

Agreed. I recall years ago someone in our government did indeed send Mexico a bill for services rendered to one of it's nationals. Needless to say, that bill went ignored.

According to the Mexican Consulate in San Diego, the burn victims are from central and southern Mexico, and include one woman. Four are in critical condition. All were rescued north of Tecate last week, said consulate spokesman Alberto Lozano, and it is suspected they had crossed the border illegally before coming face to face with the Harris fire.
Burn care requires ventilators, multiple surgeries, round-the-clock intensive care and grafts from human cadaveric skin. McAfee said grafts can be grown from patients’ own skin to minimize tissue rejection at $500,000 per patient.
Last year, the average cost of treating a burn patient at UCSD was $45,000 for an average 15-day stay.

UCSD Medical Center will be seeking reimbursement from the Mexican government, but don't hold your breath.

Ruth of Illegal Protest has dug a little deeper into what happens to foreigners in Mexico when they require medical care, even while on vacation. Stories like this one...

... Mexican hospitals absolutely will turn foreigners away if they are unable to pay cash up front. “I was negotiating with them. It was like a barter. We were bartering back and forth. They wanted $20,000 US. They said, I’ll take $10,000 US. It’s like going to a flea market and you are playing with somebody’s life here”, said a Canadian woman recently. Her husband ultimately died from complications following a heart attack in Puerto Vallarta, after the travel insurance he had purchased in Canada was denied on a technicality.

Yes because it's all about money. Mexicans are seeing themselves more and more as "hispanics" not as Mexicans and Mexico is a country they despise in reality because they think the materialist life here is much better. They'll strut around and wave their Mexican flags but scream bloody murder at the thought of returning home to their country and they'll raise their kids to see it that way also.

The Mexicans living in the USA learn a kind of pan-hispanic culture which comes out of Miami. They may hold onto some customs like quincenearas and of course Spanglish as the language. They'll learn Aztlan history but they won't learn the real and interesting history of their nation. They'll replace their own Mexican heros with Cesar Chavez who in reality didn't have anything to do with Mexico or with Che Guevara who also didn't. They won't know who the Mexican heroes were.

And even Aztlan is a fraud------------the Aztecs in particular never ranged as far north as our Southwest.

Read that prior to the Spaniards coming along.

I know. There is an interesting history of Mexico but it's not about Aztlan at all. Many Mexicans especially those living in the USA will never learn their own history but instead a make-believe history that teaches them that the Aztecs once ruled over all of North America. Incredible as it is, many Mexicans growing up in the USA actually believe that but it's what they're being taught for some reason.
