The consulate is handing out booklets explaining U.S. labor rights to everyone who visits on Monday mornings. It’s also setting people up with pro-bono labor attorneys. The consulate’s Ioana Navarrete says many Mexicans think they have to put up with abuses like sexual harassment and unpaid overtime.

NAVARRETE: The "immigrant" population is a very vulnerable one.

The consulate will help workers even if they lack authorization to be in the United States.

That raises Chicago native Brian Jacobsen’s hackles. He blogs against illegal immigration.

JACOBSEN: Mexico all but shoots their people over the border on a catapult because they can’t provide for them. How then do they have the gall to use the courts against us?

The consulate is planning to expand the program to other Midwest towns next month.

What an outrage!!! The Mexican Government SHOULD be protecting and defending the rights of THEIR OWN People instead of encouraging them to come into the U.S. Illegally!!

It is the American dollar, that feeds Mexico. Illegals here send the majority of what little they make, back to Mexico. Illegals in the construction trades, do pretty well, since they don't have the costs we do as American tax payers.

I have absolutely no respect for Mexico. None at all. If they were show half the concern for their citizens while they still lived in Mexico that they do for them once they illegal immigrate - why, there would be no need for them to hop the border.

But then Mexico would be stuck with their own uneducated peasants. So much better to export them, eh?

Disgusting. And yes, even more so that US politicians from the president down to local mayors are allowing Mexico to set up consulates with the sole purpose of circumventing US law. But money talks, and someone is getting a payday - and it sure as hell isn't us, or even the Illegals for that matter.

Mexico has more foreign embassies on American soil than any other country in the world.

I'm sure this isn't a complete list of them. They are housed in several office buildings in Chicago as well. The fact that they are not on this list confirms that it is a deliberate attempt at keeping them anonymous from the general American public. Despite speaking little to no English Mexicans know where they are and how to get to them.

In the last decade they have been going up all over the US faster than single family homes during the housing boom. Anybody want to guess why?

Chicago has several mexican consulate offices hidden from the general public in Office buildings. Kansas may be doing the same.
