Yes, they are so “afraid” to receive services to the tune of billions each year.

Quote:
Undocumented immigrants in central New Jersey are afraid.

They are afraid to call the police when they are the victim of a crime, afraid to call local fire departments, afraid to speak up when they are abused by employers and afraid to seek help.

The reason, according to advocates for Latino immigrants, is undocumented live in the shadows, fearful they will be housed in a detention center and eventually sent home – often without their families.

“It is a struggle to get them to apply (for services), because they are fearful to surface and make themselves known to the system,” says Maria Juega, a trustee and treasurer with the Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund in Princeton.

“There is a constant fear among immigrant families,”, especially those with children born in the United States, she says. “There is some anecdotal evidence of parents who have lost custody of their children — in some cases they may have had to surrender custody to relatives or nonrelatives. It’s hard to believe this is happening in this day and age in this country and it is happening all over the country.”

Anastasia Mann, a policy analyst with the liberal New Jersey Policy Perspective, says they live a “ Hobbesian nightmare.”

Well, then perhaps they ought to go home - as in their home country - and apply to come to the united states legally. Then they would be 'documented' immigrants and could get all the freebies they desire. Of course, if they were to go the legal route they would have to prove that they can take care of themselves and wouldn't need the 'freebies'.
Anyways, I thought they came here to work, and not for welfare?

Thank God for this or they would be running up bills in the trillions instead. I think they are getting more than enough already. At least too much for me. They should get absolutely nothing which would stop them from coming. We should be sending the bills to the Mexican government since it is so wealthy with oil and other natural resources. Instead of helping their people they just send them across the border. Some of these other countries are very wealthy but corrupt of course.

Nah they come here for welfare these days. The word "work" disappeared generations ago. They are just looking for the nanny state with the easiest life. And they found it all right.

If the shell game from bills passed in AZ is causing the lateral migration to other States like CA then that is absolutely correct.

Florida is right behind CA. It is a mecca for illegals and criminals. Quickly becoming Mexico's and Guatemala's maternity ward as well. They even have us speaking their language. What a country!!

So...which is it? From what some of you have implied (not particularly in this specific thread yet, but in others), every illegal alien in the country is receiving welfare. Yet this article says they are afraid to apply for services.

Some may be afraid to apply for services but most have no problem doing it. What is the worst that can happen to them after all? They get a nice free plane ride back home to their shanty town garbage dump. What do they have to lose? As another poster said they have no problem marching in the streets or commiting crimes. We all know they get free medical care and can have as many babies as they want for free. Yes, the good old nanny state maternity ward for the third world.....the United States. Or is it Estados Unidos by now?
