We keep hearing that Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) is not amnesty. We also keep hearing that it is an “earned” path to citizenship simply because illegal aliens will be required to:

1) Pay a fine
2) Learn English
3) Get in the back of the line

Let’s examine these “requirements.”

Pay a fine – Yes, there is a provision requiring illegal aliens to pay a fine. However, they are not required to satisfy that obligation prior to being granted legal status. Instead, they will be offered an installment plan. After all, it would undoubtedly create a “hardship” for these low-wage earners.

Learn English – They are only required to learn English IF they decide to apply for citizenship. After all, we certainly can’t require foreigners in this country on visas to learn English. However, we CAN make it a requirement for citizenship.

Get in the back of the line - The actual “back of the line” is in their countries of origin. Thus, they will not get in the back of the line unless they decide to apply for citizenship. Then, their applications will ostensibly be placed behind all others. No, they will be permitted to remain in this country; which, by the way, is precisely where all who are playing by the rules would love to be.

It only gets better. . .

Since this bill will supersede our current immigration law, we will no longer have illegal aliens in this country. In other words, with a few exceptions, they will ALL be issued the coveted visas to legalize their status. In fact, deportations will come to a screeching halt, with the exception of convicted felons; and all of the “good character” illegals will be merrily on their path to citizenship. But remember, ONLY if citizenship is their ultimate goal.

In fact, they can essentially remain in this country indefinitely without EVER applying for citizenship, without EVER learning one word of English, and without EVER getting in the back of the line. They would simply be required to renew their status prior to expiration. Remember, the English and the back of the line requirements are only applicable IF they wish to become a U.S. citizen.

They will be eligible to work, travel abroad, and enjoy all of the rights and privileges afforded other visa holders. Their criminal activities of ID theft, fraud, tax evasion, etc. will ALL be forgiven. Although there is a provision requiring them to satisfy tax liabilities, there would be no way to determine their wages if they were paid in cash.

Why would they even care if they become a citizen of this country, if they can remain here without the fear of deportation, and are eligible to work, drive, and continue to send billions in remittances to their countries of origin? It is quite evident the vast majority of illegals are only here to take advantage of this country, and have no allegiance whatsoever, nor remotely any desire to become an American. They certainly have no desire to assimilate. Actually, they wouldn’t have to assimilate, if they are simply here to work with the option of citizenship.

Of course, they will continue to have babies, who will automatically be granted citizenship, and all of the freebies citizenship entails. Nothing will change. They will continue to overburden our schools, our hospitals, and our social services. Only now, they will do it with authority. The adults will still have a 4th grade education, and they will still be unskilled and low-wage earners. Thus, they will continue to be a HUGE tax burden.

Last, but certainly not least. . . . the unscrupulous employers of illegal aliens will not be punished. Unless I overlooked this provision, they are not required to pay one cent in fines or penalties for their willful violation of our laws. All will be forgiven.

Wake up folks! Comprehensive Immigration Reform is simply the decriminalization of illegal immigration. It is NOT an “earned” path to citizenship. It is AMNESTY; not only for illegal aliens, but also for their greedy and criminal employers. Cushy deal, eh?

If two out of three “requirements” are only applicable if they file an application years later for citizenship; how in the heck are they “earning” anything? Can someone help me understand how this isn’t amnesty? What am I missing?

The legislation text can be found at Thomas Library of Congress. Have a barf bag handy.

Awesome, we will get rid of the law breaking illegal aliens, now they will be legal immigrants. No more ID theft, no more free welfare, no more leeching of the government, no more getting away with breaking other laws.

This is awesome. If all scams are like this, why do we have laws against them.

It’s a scam, because it’s being touted as being an “earned” path to citizenship; when it’s nothing more than a deceptive tactic to give amnesty to 20+ million illegals.

One question here:

Why should the USA kiss the behinds of those insolent illegel alien criminals yet Mexico can still deport their illegals from Guatemala, USA, etc. vs. offering them the same sort of amnesty?

There is nothing “hateful” in opposing lawlessness; only the morally bankrupt will defend it.

What gives foreigners the right to illegally enter this country, and then expect to be rewarded? This is not the only country in the world, and we are by no means obligated to provide a home for everyone who manages to slither across our border.

I am still waiting for someone to explain how this bill is not amnesty. How can this be considered an “earned” path to citizenship, when all they will do is pay a measly fine. Heck, they probably won’t even do that.

Legal immigrants have every right to be in the United States because they played by the rules.

Illegal aliens, whether they entered illegally/overstayed their visas, deserve to be subjected to legal prosecution & punishment.

Don't try to confuse legal immigrants with illegal aliens, understand?

If they are living a normal life in their own countries, I have no problem at all with them.

Just open the gate and leave it open then... What's the difference?
A swear when common sense was handed out, a lot of people got out of line.

At the rate it is going, the USA will be a third world impoverished welfare country, in short order.
