Through my work, I got stuck in another country with an expired Visa. I had to hang out at immigration with all the other illegals.
Very true------------and, the (mostly Mestizo Hispanic) illegal aliens give our true blue Americans of Mexican, etc. background a very bad name.

<<maybe italics, denoting sarcasm would help...>>

I had no trouble detecting sarcasm. The tip-off should have been the words in quotes, if nothing else.

I'm guessing we are speaking of, Mexicans entering the U.S. illegally right? My thing is this. It's not right, when people of other nations have to do it the proper way, and get on airplanes, and get visas and such. What makes it right for those from Mexico? Perhaps, the Mexican people feel, America, was part of their country, before the Mayflower arrived, an so they think nothing of crossing the border. Then again, it's not only Mexicans that are guilty of this. There are those from Ecuador, and Guatemala, that travel miles, to do the same thing. Perhaps, they think about how the Cubans were granted the "come now, if you can get here" opportunity, back in the day. Again, I'm guessing you are specifically speaking of Mexican illegal immigration, as opposed to illegal immigration period. I'm like, whatever. Half of my heritage was brought here on slave ships, the other half, were here before the Mayflower arrived, and thus shamefully mistreated, by the newcomers. Like the song went "..this land belongs to you and me.." This country belongs to everyone. Let's just find a way to enforce immigration laws. Illegal immigration exists in other countries as well you know. Everyone is desirous of a better way for themselves. Isn't that why the ships left England in the first place???

Sarcasm doesn't translate well, and this one apparently missed the mark. Glad you got it...

That was a pretty standard laundy list you had going

There was no Mexico till ca. 1821-----------it was New Spain.

I can safely say that all of the regular posters here (including myself) want all illegal aliens gone-----------'brown' Mexican and everyone else.

You're probably a very nice person, BUT.... When the song said "This land belongs to you and me", it's not altogether clear who it was speaking to. A LOT of songs say a LOT of things..some of them cold, hard fact...lots of it 'poetic license', allegory, etc. One song speaks of "Purple Mountains majesty", "amber waves of grain", and "shining seas"....even though many mountains are NOT purple, many plains are barely able to support bunchgrass, let alone fruit, and MOST of the time, the sea doesn't actually "shine". It sounds nice, but it's not the literal truth....and either is 'this land belongs' etc etc. If you think "this land REALLY belongs to you and me", try building a house in a National Park...or pickimg someone else's oranges.

Secondly, if, as you say, this land really "belongs to everyone", why may I ask do we need to "find a way to enforce immigration law"? If the land REALLY belongs to everyone, then it belongs to the illegals as well; and thus, "immigration", legal or not, is a moot point. And, of course, if that's true, then we don't NEED to enforce immgration law. I'm afraid you lose me here.

Thirdly, as to why "the ships left England", I imagine there were a host of reasons. Not having any English ancestry, I can only repeat what I've been taught; and that is, that who "left England" did so in large measure to escape oppression there. Eventually, after decades of 'trial and error', they settled upon a system in which the 'rights' of people to come here and enjoy freedom were pretty well 'laid out' on paper. This presupposed that those who later CAME here, did so with the undestanding that they could flourish under our benevolent system of laws and customs...NOT to challenge our system as "irrelevant" and flaunt our laws and shove our generosity down our throats.

I think you're a good person....but perhaps a bit naive. Best wishes to you, in any case.

Jeez, I can't believe the spin on "this land is your land, etc." Do you actually think that it was including illegal aliens rather than just citizens or legal immigrants of this country? Use some common sense, will you?

I had a co-worker I worked next to back in 1989 who adopted an infant baby girl who was 1/4 American Indian (I don't remember which tribe). She had just turned 18 and was living at home while working a summer job while planning to attend community college in the fall. He told me because she was now an adult she started receiving $1,500/month from her tribe and when school started she would be getting an additional $1,000/month for living expenses since she was living off campus.

The money for living expenses while attending college can be viewed as money for their school system as you mentioned but, the other money started when she turned 18 and wasn't tied into going to school (which she didn't start until the fall). There are probably a dozen or more casinos in AZ now but, at that time I only knew of one (Fort McDowell) and I doubt her income had anything to do with that but, it's possible.
