A well known fact is that during the cold war the Mexican border was the Soviets favorite route to sneak people in. I have no doubt that the Russian Mafia also likes this route.
Most Soviets entered legally. We also know that the number was greatly exaggerated (thanks McCarthyism!)
We know this since most of terrorists that have done anything came via airplanes and through our international airports. It is more likely that terrorists will come in via legal means initially.

Like I said. We really don't know because we can't track illegals. We don't even know how many illegals we actually have in this country.
There can be no doubt that terrorist orgs can see this weak spot in our defences. How could they not?
We need to secure the border for a number of reasons. To stem the flow of illegals, drugs and to eliminate an easy entry point for those who would seek to harm us.
Soviet Spetnaz units and intelligence agents did indeed use the US-Mexico border, in fact they had plans to sneak in Spetnaz units to attack the oil refineries and such in SE Texas via the Mexican border in the event of war with the US. They also infiltrated via Alaska as well ... this is proven fact, the Eskimo Scouts of the Alaska Army National Guard found evidence of this on many patrols. At least 1 scout was KIA in an encounter with Soviet troops.

It was reported by the FBI Director Robert Mueller that before OTM's were being detained at our southern border that there were 100's of thousand of illegals that snuck through from known terrorist countries and disappeared into our country. We are a ticking time bomb with unsecured borders.
