- The Arizona House has dealt a rare defeat to a bill designed to strengthen illegal-immigration enforcement. The House voted 30-28 to defeat a bill that would have required the governor to deploy National Guard troops to the border if an immigration state of emergency has been declared.

One defeat out of how many victories against those illegal alien losers?
blacknigh04: just watch the economy............that alone will all but guarantee that a pro illegal alien apologist's worst nightmares will come to pass.
Small insignifcant victories dont make up a huge defeat. major defeat in which the AZ leg says NO to putting AZ gaurd on border...Major loss
Major loss? Nah, just another revisit. The only reason this is not done is so not to further fan the already civil unrest of Americans regarding illegal aliens. Soon it will be be very apparent and the National Guard will need to be called, I truly believe.

Our employer sanctions law is a significant victory: I remember many a pro illegal alien group back in 2007 cryin' the blues and how they said it was unconstitutional and all that crap.
Between the above and our bad economy: officially, 20% of the illegals here have left Arizona...........never mind my own observations indicate closer to 30-50% judging by the rash of empty storefronts and apts in Spanish speaking areas. Many American Hispanics avoid the barrios and speak English.
"Opponents say that deploying National Guard troops is the governor's choice, not the Legislature's."
All it means is that it isn't the legislature's choice but it lands squarely on the governor's shoulders to deploy troops. I don't see this as a defeat for the anti-illegal immigration side. The option is still there.

It would make more sense to increase BP along the border with the guard as a reserve role just as they did years ago.
