There were some incidents of violence against the anti-illegal side including physical assualt and destruction of their cars.
Thanks for the info. I guess that explains why so many have no voting power, and rightly so.

You're welcome, Benicar. I remember the incident well as one white woman was thrown to the ground and punched by one of the raza (not sure if they were legal or illegal) and she was called something like "a white devil". The rallier's cars were scratched and dented. One elderly white man was chased into a store by the raza. The icing on the cake was when the raza lowered the American flag and raised up the Mexican flag on the flagpole and this was at a U.S. Post Office!! I wouldn't go near Maywood with a ten foot pole.

I recall seeing a picture of that despicable flag incident. They did the same at a high school. How much longer will citizens of this country ignore these blatant acts of disrespect? Yet, many want such insolence to be rewarded with legalization.

Maywood,Southgate,Huntington Park and surrounding communities have a large Latino majority. At one time the demographics were a lot different,in all fairness a lot of the Hispanic Americans are citizens whose families have been there for several generations,a good percentage more recent legal immigrants from Mexico and Central America andlots of Illegals also. Some of these communities in the past had older Anglo politicians that did not represent the demographics of the city and were voted out and have a strong Latino representation.Since the populations there have a lot of recent immigrant(Both legal and illegal) they tend to sympathize with the illegal alien situation.
Several nearby communities such as Lynwood and Compton in the past have been known as African American enclaves, but the demographics there are also shifting as many parts of those cities have also seen a huge influx of Latinos also.I've worked several years north of there in Vernon and in the past have have eaten and shopped around there.

Here is one of the news articles published at the time of that incident in Maywood. Not sure of the exact date that the incident happened but it was 3-4 years ago.

The Save Our State group held an anti-illegal immigration protest in Maywood, California earlier today. According to various posts in their forums there were allegedly a few incidents, including:
- An elderly couple being swarmed and having to go into an auto parts store and then be escorted out by police to avoid the crowd... (picture at one of the links)
- One of their female members being roughed up...
- Several of their cars being vandalized with spray paint and given flat tires.
- The American flag was replaced by the Mexican flag at the Post Office.
As it says in the front page (no permalink yet) of la.indymedia.org: "Sat., 2:00pm Counter-protesters raise Mexican flag up Maywood post office flag pole Caller reports 100 counters and 30 SOS-MM still facing off in Maywood near post office. A small group of counters have replaced the US flag at Maywood post office with a Mexican flag. Police tried to pull the Mexican flag down but the ropes got stuck and it still flies at this time."
In the pictures, the "counters" are seen with the usual banners from ANSWER LA and from various reconquista groups ("White racists this is out continent", "We are Indigenous! The ONLY owners of this continent", etc.)

Thanks for the additional info. I have heard of the “ethnic cleansing” in Compton and Watts. Pro-illegals deny it, but the “former” residents confirm that they were forced to move through intimidation.

Maywood,Bell,Bell Gardens,Compton,Watts,Lynwood,Cudahy,Huntington Park and Several others may be cities within their own rights, with an elected Council and Mayor are not really what one would consider small communities. These places between L.A. proper and Long Beach would be considered by most as just part of "Greater L.A.".They all are just a few miles and a short drive from(barring the heavy traffic at times).downtown LA and connected by many freeways and all are in L.A. County.

Watts is within the City of Los Angeles, but all of the others are independent cities that are like neighborhoods/communities of Los Angeles.
