Huh? No, I'm sorry, but this is big news, and I've been hearing about it from national media sources for at least the last couple of weeks.

Also, illegal immigration is an issue that gets Americans a lot more worked up (for good reason) than health care legislation.

There was a documentary on PBS called "Made In America", which profiled the lives of several illegals during their time here in the US. One of the women profiled in the documentary was from Somalia. She paid a coyote to bring her 3 sons (between ages 19-15) to the US (through Mexico).

They were stopped in Mexico and deported back to Somalia due to the fact that they were in Mexico illegally.

Tell me, how does Mexico identify people that are illegally in its country?

These 3 Somalian boys had brown skin, just like Mexicans do. They spoke Spanish just like Mexicans do. How did Mexico identify them as illegals -- and subsequently, deport them?

Honestly, all these other countries want to dictate our rights to pass laws here in the US. They have NO right to dictate US law!

I'm sick and tired of hearing that this new law in AZ is unconstitutional. It isn't. According to the Laws it is already a crime to be in the country illegally. AZ just passed a law that would allow the state to enforce an already existing federal law that our government just can't seem to be bothered to enforce.

The new law in AZ simply allows a Policeman to ask for proof of citizenship if they are stopped for any reason (like a traffic stop, loitering, etc.)

There's already a federal law too, that states that if a Policeman asks for your Identification, and you fail to produce it -- you can be arrested for "Failure to Identify."

Not being able to produce VALID LEGAL ID when asked by a Policeman when the Policeman stops you for probable cause (e.g., traffic violation, unpaid tickets, warrants, etc.) is what this new AZ law applies to. If you're in the US illegally, you're not going to be able to produce a VALID LEGAL ID!

Good point there: {geek}; quite a few folks (of any actual race) do resemble stereotypical Mexicans------and, quite a few Mexican nationals do not look 'Mexican'.

If it's just "a little stop-n-ask law" then why are folks protesting it and getting all up in arms about it's passage?

Hmm...I wondered the same I honestly believe that those protesting around the streets of America have no clue as to why they are even there. Talk about sheep! Somebody tells them that they will get kicked out if they don't. Simple as that. I doubt they are fully aware of just how much Americans hate their presence in this country. Their backers get more money for their cause by continuing to exploit them while they think all "Americans" are fighting for them against the big bad government. It's really very sad.

Obama's going to make sure other states cannot follow Arizona's lead with regard to their new immigration law. He doesn't care what the citizens of the US want. He doesn't plan to enforce federal laws that state that illegal entry into the US is a crime.

He's slapping the American voters in the face and is only concerned with hanging onto his Latino/Hispanic voter demographic.

This is truly pathetic. What happened to the President is supposed to represent ALL Americans? Now he's electing to selectively represent only those he deems worthy of representation and the rest of us just get crapped on. MY VOTE WILL NOT GO TO OBAMA IN 2012!!!

Quote:
He [Obama] also urged Congress to proceed with legislation, in an effort to preempt actions by other state legislatures.
Quote:
Obama won 68 percent of the Hispanic vote in his presidential election, and it’s a constituency he wants to hold.
Quote:
Democrats hope they can bring along at least a few Senate Republicans both in crafting legislative language and in reaching the 60 votes needed to defeat an expected filibuster.

So far, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) of South Carolina is the only Republican senator working with Democrats on a bill. On Tuesday, Obama reached out to several other Senate Republicans, with no success.
What will Washington do about Arizona's Immigration law?
