How many acts on that list left Illinois after they hit it big? Or even before? So why does the fact that Alison Krauss has lived elsewhere most of her adult life discount her from this list when it doesn't discount others? It's not like Rick Nielson still lives in Rockford...

Cheap trick! heckyeah. My fave.
Most of the blues bands are fronted by a singer: so maybe they wouldn't be considered bands? i.e: Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, really too many to list.

If Dennis DeYoung is not the front man, it's just an imposter band & not worth it.

Just an FYI - Cheap Trick is solidly a Rockford band that lived in Milwaukee/broke nationally from Milwaukee. I would definitely not consider them a Chicago band at all, but IL band is apropos.

I saw "Dennis DeYoung performs the Music of Styx" a few years ago. Good show, but conspicuously missing all the Tommy shaw hits. Would like to see the other half of the story.

Shaw was the rocker, DeYoung grew up playing "Lady of Spain" on the accordion and it shows.
