Peoria bus is normally very good and on scheduled. It goes to ICC, and Bartonville, and I think Pekin. There was also a Pekin bus that came to Peoria. I don't know about the Pekin routes now. But since the explosion of new shops and Costco, on the old CAT campus in East Peoria, I expect both buses go to East Peoria. But I could be wrong. .

As to the OP, distance will be the problem. The odds are OP would have transfer at least once to get to workd downtown. Peoria grew much differently than B-N. Peoria County sprawls from IL 9 to the Marshall/Stark County line.

Regarding the previously mentioned Apartments at Grand Prairie, they do accept large dogs. I lived there for a little over a year with my 75lb dog, and my roommate also had a dog, though that dog was only about 25 lbs.

GREAT NEWS! OP will need to drive to work, but compared to Chicago traffic there is none.

Rolling Acres? That is not what I would consider a wonderful neighborhood! When I was growing up in the 70s in Peoria Rolling Acres was considered comfortably middle class but it has gone down hill since then. I would not want to live there. Please consider living in Tazewell County. MUCH nicer, less crime and lower tax rates, tons of new shopping and the county is operating in the BLACK not the RED like Peoria Cty. Peoria's school district sucks taxes from its residents and is one of the worst school districts in the state. And Crime is worse in Peoria than other posters have stated. It includes nice, upscale areas where you would think you were safe but you are not. I moved to Washington from Peoria 9 years ago and would never go back. It's an easy drive into town for amenities, and tons of CAT people live over here. My street has about 8 young CAT employees (in their 30s) and they love it. They are homeowners, but there are rentals and apts going up on this side of the river. Good luck!

I grew up in EP, went to the schools there and graduated. There are not so nice areas in EP, too. Did you forget the 'bottoms' and 150? The difference between Peoria and E, Peoria is 93,000 residents. For a town of 23,500. EP is saturated with heavy traffic and shopping centers. It a reaching a point where it is beginning to look like a suburb of Creve Coeur. The tornado that hit Springfield Road and bounced into Washington didn't do EP any favors, either.

Location is everything. The City of Peoria has not had a tornado. Neither has PH or Bartonville. I'm not sure about Chillicothe, Metamora or Eureka.
