What is your most despised suburb/neighborhood in IL and why?

Gotta go with Hanover Park on this one. Blech. Boring, soulless, junk.

No offense to those that live there.

Naperville - too snobbish for my taste. I much prefer Wheaton, which at least has some character.

Bensenville...what a dump that place has become. I guess there wasn't ever really a time the place wasn't trashy, but now it's just icky.

Wheaton is nice indeed. But that town also carries a pretty high snob-factor if you ask me.

Can't say it is despised per se - but my vote for overrated: Elmhurst. Used to be cool. Now everything is a teardown mcmansion and costs way too much for what/where it is. Also, big snob factor.

Can't disagree with you on that one. I guess I just never knew what made Naperville the "it" place to be.

East St. Louis. I have been through once, on my way to St. Louis for business and it looked very impoverish and "slummy." East St. Louis also does have a terrible reputation..

But, so far people have been mentioning CHI suburbs, and I am going to have to go with Markam and Calumet City. I have been to Markam, and I didn't find it attractive. I have hard Calumet City has a terrible reputation for gang violence, watching the WGN News in Chicago about a month ago.

Stone Park. The cops are more crooked than any I have ever seen. And the bars---they used to be good for all night partying...Now they are just filled with scumbags and gangbangers.

It was still ok in the late 80's/early-mid 90's.
