Having just driven 3,000 miles in search of, I can assure you; it isn't as easy as most think.
Unless you're thinking Kansas, of which state is giving away property; in an effort to attract new residents.
Yet, this state has the nicest people out of the 40 I have visited; Iowa being second.
Land and homes in more desired areas for your average American simply isn't in the budget for many.
Take Colorado Springs, there are miles and miles of very ugly tract homes under construction.
All of which are close to $500K, and the taxes out there are almost as high.

I am not one of those people. I grew up around the ocean, and miss the salt-water and accompanying salt-water beaches. I would also take mountains, forests, elevation changes not measured in single-digit feet. This country is too big and too beautiful to live in a state that has as few areas and variation of natural beauty as IL.
I was gonna say - compared to like, almost every other state, Illinois probably ranks low on the "beauty" list.

Telling people to move is a pretty weak retort to the very valid criticisms of the governing ineptitude and malfeasance perpetrated by the Democratic party on the people of this state. However, that is pretty typical. The left isn't interested in debate. They just tell people to move or call names. It underscores the weakness of their positions.

Curly, where are you headed? We bought an acre in Colorado, on (in?) the Front Range not far from Denver, that’s where we are going when the time comes.

All of the above for me. Soft-on-crime Democrats, high property taxes (currently paying over twenty grand a year,) increasingly over-bearing government.

It's an article of faith that they are leaving due to high taxes. Of course the GOP insists it is due to Dem rule. But there are some less well-known reasons. Many actually migrated to IL and are returning to their roots. I know of several who moved to be closer to children. One good way to accelerate the exodus is to tax retirees.
