My husband and I are considering a move within the next 4-16 months to Champaign-Urbana. Can anyone give me some insight into the current job markets in this area (and surrounding cities?) We're not opposed to a 30-40 minute commute.

I've been looking in the News-Gazette and on Craigslist, are there any other sources that post jobs in the area? What are some of the major employers in the region (other than U of I and Carle, the biggest I've found?)

Thanks in advance!

Kraft ... Illinois American Water ... Insight Communications ... corn farms ...

Champaign-Urbana has "surrounding cities" ?? How far is "surrounding" ??
Decatur and Bloomington-Normal and Danville are more than 30-40 minutes when the weather gets bad in winter, perhaps.

The ring around C/U would be probably Decatur, Bloomington, Danville, etc. And for further clarification, we are both currently admin types who are flexible in most office situations.

The commute, even on a bad day, wouldn't be much different than the ones we have now from Chicago out to the suburbs, which is a funny thing to think about.

Thanks, I'll start looking into some of those companies.

I dunno, if you are a city/suburb type person, I think you would miss the urban feel type traffic while the corn stalks whizz past you mile after mile.

The Bloomington-Normal area is nice, and I think there are jobs there. It's also centrally located between Champaign-Urbana, Peoria, and Springfield, and a straight shot up I-55 to Bolingbrook and other exciting parts of Chicagoland.
