Hi All,
I am considering the purchase of a condo in the Arbors off of 56th street near Lee Road, just across the street from Fort Ben. Does anyone have any input on the safety of the area? My realtor doesn't really recommend the 56th street corridor. Anyone live in the area who could shed more light on safety? Thanks much.

Very residential with a Lawrence Central High and alot of middle and Elem schools nearby, alot of unsupervised youth running around. I think this is offset by a strong police presence because of the nearby Federal assets of FT Ben. The Arbors sit right next to Lawrence Christian school where my two children went to school for a couple years. My wife and I both work at Fort Ben. Lawrence is a mix of nice areas to ghetto and the Arbors strike me as falling in the middle a little to the nicer side. Ive never lived there but it seems like a well kept place if not a little busy with families traffic. I think the safety of the place would depend on the person. Its not a hard core crime area but if you dont lock your doors and take basic safety precautions you could get ripped off. I think you could walk thestreets in the evening without worrying about being robbed.

That area is nice and old enough that their is alot of old growth landscaping. It is surrounded by new construction housing towards FT been and older neighborhoods in most other directions. I would say its strictly middle class with a family type area.
