Hello, I am considering relocating to the Indianaplis area for work and notice the Speedway area seems pretty decent. I would be looking for a home in the area. Are there any particular areas to avoid? I dont mind a commute to downtown but dont want to spend more than 175000. Is the area around Meadowood Park good. I have lived in high crime areas before, after college haha it was all i could afford but definitely do not want that now. I plan on visiting Indy in the near future. Thanks!

Speedway has some of the lowest crime rates in Marion County, which is pretty remarkable considering some of the areas around Speedway.

Default Speedway

So Speedway itself is pretty good? I did notice the crime rate is pretty low. I also noticed northside Indy seems to a questionable area. Can you tell me more about Speedway?

1) low

2) Speedway is not a big place; Meadowood Park is in Speedway, any description of Speedway would generally apply to Meadowood Park

3) when there is nothing going on at the track, there is not much traffic in Speedway

4) There is a Kohl's; some restaurants. Things to do...........well Speedway is a part of Indy metro. Speedway itself may not offer a whole lot beyond the basics, but you've got Eagle Creek, Indy's trails, all of that on its doorstep.

5) Crazy for the Indy 500. I know people that let people park on their yards for cash during the race; I know people who leave town.

"Northside" is a pretty broad term, which in general contains some of the best and most affluent areas of Indianapolis; along with some pretty rough areas.

Good to know. I want to be close to downtown but not in it. You mentioned rough areas around Speedway? What would those be?

Default would choose Avon

I used to live in Speedway for several years and still have friends there. There are still some really nice quaint small homes in speedway that would be ideal if you're moving there. However, I would avoid living near the Motor Speedway particularly around 16th street. Really run down with a lot of drugs, etc. Why not look into Avon? A little further away but a lot nicer and more community features, etc.

I figure you are referring to areas along 16th Street east of IMS, which is Indianapolis, not Speedway. West of the track is pretty well-maintained.
