^Never knew about the exotic felines center, very cool! Might be worth rounding up the family to see it.

I don't know if any one area has stuff to do for an entire week in Indiana. The NW offers Chicago, dunes, and the lake. Plenty to do for a week, but you'll have to run into the city for stuff. If one just likes sitting and relaxing, then I guess just sitting on the beach would be good for such a person. The NE has Ft. Wayne, and I know there are some lakes in that area. For an entire week, not sure if that would be a place to pick. Central has plenty to do, and is close enough to Brown County and Parke County for good hiking options. SE near Brookville Lake is close enough to Cincinnati and casinos. One could do lake stuff for a couple days, go to King's Island, a Reds game, or some of the casinos or museums. South around Louisville has caves, historic places, and whatever Louisville can offer. Southwest near Evansville doesn't have a lot, Land between the Lakes is two hours away, Shawnee National Forest sites about the same.

The West Baden Springs Hotel has a huge atrium with several places to just sit and relax. There is often live music. When we were there there was a piano player which the sound made the atrium even more relaxing. The French Lick Springs Hotel has a huge porch that was perfect for getting a drink or some ice cream and sitting watching the world go by.

A couple pictures I took from my first trip there this summer. These are of the West Baden Springs Hotel (which was my favorite of the two) and the pictures do not do it justice at all.

It does look like a nice place, for a day or two, but I don't think I could do it for a whole week. The only golf I play is miniature and I can't do much more than 3 days in a casino. I get nervous when I go in a casino because I know the chances are good that I'll blow a bunch of money before I leave the casino. I can still hear the annoying loud sound of the bells and whistles of a casino long after I leave the casino. I find a casino to be an extremely stressful place to be when it should be a fun place to be.

Now, I can get into spending a night or two in a historic hotel, and chillin' out in the lobby and playing Euchre on my cell phone would be a fun and relaxing way to waste some free time while my dear companions are in the casino getting their gambling fix.

Hiking in the woods is always nice in late October. It's the familiar cool crispness that permeates the air and the rhythmic sound of my breath walking thru an Indiana woods that haunts my memory along with the constant crunch of the leaves as I step on them can send me into a Zen-like hypnotic trance. 2 maybe 3 days of that and I'd be ready to move on.

Thank you for filling me in about French Lick. I've had a few people here in Texas ask me if I ever been to French Lick and I'd have to tell them, no, I only heard of it.

In Southern Indiana, you have the Hoosier National Forest and O'Bannon Woods State Park offers miles of hiking trails as well as some great mountain biking at O'Bannon Woods in Harrison County. Just 30 minutes away is the Louisville area, with Slugger Museum and Factory as well as Churchill Downs. (If you're ever in the area in last part of April and first Saturday in May, the Kentucky Derby Festival with Thunder Over Louisville and Kentucky Derby is an experience.) There's also the Louisville Science Center with several floors of exhibits for kids. The Big Four walking bridge in Jeff offers sweeping views of the Ohio River as well as the Louisville skyline. The Falls of the Ohio Interpretative Center has a decent museum with fossil beds near the Ohio River you can explore when the water is low. Floyd County offers some scenic backroads to the Huber Winery and Huber's Restaurant. Also, there's the casino in Harrison County, just past the Floyd County line on Highway 111. And downtown New Albany has some good options for breakfast and dinner. French Lick an hour or so away is worth a visit for sure. And in winter, Paoli Peaks has some skiing. It's not Colorado or Snowshoe in WV but it's a fun option.

I think Indy has some great stuff to do for a weekend, with the restaurants downtown.

I've always wanted to see the Indiana Dunes. Been to Michigan and the UP but hear the ID are nice as well.

The Dunes are very nice, preferably in the warmer months. I went there in March and while it was a decent day (for March), I'm sure it's much nicer in the summer.

If you are Catholic, or are just interested in the church, the St. Meinrad Archabbey may be worth seeing.

Holiday World is also well worth the trip.

For the Southern part of the state my top tourist destinations are eating at Zaharakos (been there since 1900) restaurant in Columbus then going to Brown County, Patoka Lake, Falls of the Ohio State Park (best in late summer / fall low water) and the nearby Big 4 pedestrian bridge, touring the LST Navy carrier in Evansville, Lincoln Boyhood Nat Park, and French Lick. I like the Dunes and have been there just a few months ago but the surrounding area is nasty and not touristy at all. Next time I plan on staying in St Joseph MI and doing one trip over to the Dunes.
