A friend of mine was a student of the 48 year old. He was a teacher at a high school.

Our power went out around 3:00 on Sunday. It finally came back on sometime in the middle of the night last night--over 36 hours without power. Lots of leaves and twigs in the yard. I've not been back into the forest behind our house yet. I expect at least one downed tree but no big deal there.

Husband and son sat in the driveway Sunday listening to the Colts game on the car radio. (No, we don't have a battery operated radio at my house--something to think about I guess.)

My sister in NW part of the state says things were pretty scary up there. National guard out in Munster.

The city trucks are all over the place. This morning, when I took my 3 year old to storytime at the library, we had to swerve all over the place on the bike to avoid piles of debris.

Thanks Ike, thanks a whole freaking lot!

Out here in Connersville (Fayette Co.), it looks like a small tornado swept through town. On our street alone, 3 trees were uprooted along with at least 20 large tree limbs down. Six limbs over 12 ft long fell in our front yard; luckily, none hit our house (but came very close). There is one limb that cracked and has been dangling since the storm ended.

My husband and I drove through town yesterday and were amazed at all the damage--more trees uprooted or snapped off mid-trunk, houses damaged, cars mangled. Some of our residents were without power for 20 hrs or more (we were very lucky--only 3 hrs).

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that the fir/pine trees were pretty much unaffected by the high winds?

I was at a friends watching the Colts game in Ellettsville, a branch fell off a tree into another friends windshield, then another branch fell on top of the electrical line and the line fell off the poll and was laying on the ground. Only lost power for a few minutes though and it came back on? Got to watch the rest of the colts game at least! At my home in Bloomington my power went out, but at my apartment in Speedway (I'm a student). Nothing happened according to my roommate.

Saw lots of branches down in Bloomington, not too much on my way back to Indy Sunday evening.

We got hammered here in northwest Indiana, not by wind but by massive amounts of rain. We already had 6 inches of rain from another storm that rained on us for two days. Then Ike joined in on Sunday. Many areas ended up with a total of 9 inches but some received 11 and Crown Point got 13 inches of rain. Needless to say there is massive flooding in some areas. The levee broke on the Munster side of the Little Calument river and flooded 2000 homes. Some are still under 5 feet of water. They are just now getting the major roads open in that area. Last night the 80/94 expressway was finally opened after being shut down from flooding. The area where I live was not flooded, but the mold level in the air is high everywhere, bad for us asthmatics. You can go to nwi.com - The Northwest Indiana and Illinois Times Newspaper to see pictures or read about it.
