I was researching New Albany and Floyds Knobs (you have to love that name..). Can someone tell me if these areas have good schools and are safe areas? I have the usual info but looking for insider's opinions. If you can offer another area I'd appreciate it.

Floyd's Knobs has some of the best schools in the area. It is a beautiful part of the state.

GypsySoul22, if you're not already familiar with it, drive across the JFK Bridge that carries I-65 into Louisville at about 7 a.m. The traffic is HORRENDOUS and almost-daily crashes and breakdown vehicles lengthen the commute even more. Granted, there is an alternate route (Sherman Metten Bridge on I-64) but it's still a rough commute, IMHO. I really like the Indiana side, but if I worked on the South side of the river, I'd definitely live there. I feel that the Louisville side has a lot more alternatives if your main route to work is backed up. Best of luck!

The trouble with the Louisville side is my husband is not happy with the demographics...he doesn't want our son going to school with such a larger percentage of minority students. (Please don't be offended anyone).

Floyds Knobs is one of the more expensive areas of that part of the state. Affordable might be a big stretch there.

I see it is quite expensive compared to some other places. I am looking into Corydon currently. I also wouldn't mind a bit closer to Louisville if I knew the schools were decent.

GypsySoul--I have a nephew that is a special needs child. My sister has gone through a lot to get him all that he needs. My suggestion is to contact the director of special education in all the areas that appeal to you. You might ask about any sort of support groups for parents and some contact info for them. Parents really have the inside scoop when it comes to special ed programs. In some places it's a battle, others it's easier.

Corydon is a nice town. My husband is from there and we go to visit often. I have found it to be a very friendly community; not too small, not too large.

look at Henryville
Henryville is a very nice small community, good school and top notch fire department. we lived there since 1999 and loved it, we relocated to Indianapolis for my work. we are selling our house on the west side of the Interstate that is very close to the new golf course community. my wife worked in Louisville and it was about a 20 minute commute.
