It was #1 last time. What happened??

It's weird how this list works. Fishers has also popped in and out of the list. It was 33rd in 2006, 10th in 2008, disappeared in 2010, and 12th in 2012, now it's gone again.

A lot of these cities rotate in and out. Is Fishers worse than Carmel? IMO, not really.

These internet lists are out of control and serve no practical purpose.

Unless it is a list that shines a positive light on my town, then...............YEAH LISTS!!!!!

I don't know that I'd say it's worse than Carmel, but it is definitely more generic. Fishers reminds me of most nice Midwest suburbs with strip malls everywhere, plus a mix of large houses and tract homes. Carmel is at least trying to make a name for itself by developing a relatively large downtown area. Traffic in Carmel is also lighter, which will probably improve further once they're done upgrading Meridian (U.S. 31) to a freeway.

See, I feel the opposite. Then again, I live in Fishers and work in Carmel so I get to experience rush hour daily in Carmel. It is terrible mostly because Carmel refuses to widen any east-west road outside Keystone and Meridian. I get that these are residential areas but there is absolutely no reason to leave 116th St just a 2 lane road between Keystone and Hazel Dell when traffic during rush hour backs up all the way through that 2 mile stretch. Same with Main St. Backed up occasionally the 1 mile between Gray Rd and Keystone. And from Rangeline all the way back through downtown beyond the roundabout with 4th Ave And the ridiculous 3-way stop at 126th St just east of Rangeline backs up traffic for almost a mile back to halfway between 3rd Ave SW and Guilford Ave. I may be biased because I see traffic in Carmel at its worst, but the worst traffic I usually experience in Fishers is trying to cross 37. I've certainly never experienced a 2 mile backup like I see happen every day in Carmel on 116th St. Honestly, I think they both have similar amounts of traffic outside rush hour.

I know this thread is really old but I have to agree with wh15395 because Fishers is definitely more generic than Carmel yet still far less generic than a typical suburban city. Carmel has so much more with being known as the roundabout capital of the U.S. with more than any other city in the country, the city center building, the palladium, downtown (main street), one consolidated high school w/ around 5000 students (some don't like it, but I personally do because of the feel of the whole community rooting for a single high school), the monon center & trail, etc. The one thing Fishers has over Carmel is Geist (even though most of the areas bordering Geist are unincorporated Hamilton county). The whole Geist area feels like Fishers even though some people in the Geist area want to be their own town separate from Fishers and some treat Geist as if it were a town.

As far as I know, there is no longer any unincorporated Hamilton county property around Geist. All of the Hamilton county property around Geist was incorporated into Fishers in 2010-2011.

Actually Fishers only touches Geist at the Olio Road Bridge and at its Northeastern side. Basically all the neighborhoods on Geist that one would associate with Fishers are unincorporated Hamilton County still.

Doesn't appear so from this map.
