I got my little sister and her husband and 3 or 4 of their grandkids coming up from Arkansas in a couple weeks and we want to take them to get some good bbq in Indianapolis. We used to like to go to QL's over in Muncie but they got shut down so we don't go there no more. I hated to here they got shut down because QL's had the best bbq in all of Indiana, and pretty muich any place I ever been to, north south or midwest or west. We don't go to Indianapolis enough to know where the best bbq is, so I'm asking y'all, where can we get the best bbq in Indy, some place we can be proud to take 'em to, cause they love bbq ? Thanks in advance y'all.

There's a place way out on the Westside of Indianapolis called City Barbecue. West of 465 on Rockville Road. They got some good pulled pork that's nice and juicy and tender and flavorful. My girlfriend loved the ribs. I liked it that hushpuppies is one of the sides. Unusual for barbecue. Sweet tea is real good. The peach cobbler was real good too. Wasn't too crazy over the slaw. It was vinegary instead of creamy. I prefer creamy slaw. like they serve at KFC.

I don't live in the Indy area so I don't know if it's the best barbecue in the Indy area or not, but I'm comfortable recommending it. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it about a 7.8. It's clean, good food, fair price. I'd go there again if I was nearby and hungry but I probably wouldn't make a special trip for it.

To quote Merle Haggard, it's not love, but it's not bad. That's a good summation.

The best BBQ I've ever had in Indy was in a neighborhood you refer to as a "thug" neighborhood. Squealer's is probably right up your alley. Yeeeeeeeeeee-haw.

(Big Hoffa's in Westfield is good too)

I don't think Indianapolis is a bbq town. Otherwise people would be jumping at the chance to tell their best bbq place in Indianapolis, just like they did in a Pizza thread with 7 or more pages of discussion.

I looked at trip advisor Indianapolis restaraunts and filtered out the bbq, they list 41 bbq places in Indianapolis and Chili's and Applebee's were ranked 13th and 14th for bbq. I think that's embarrassing, Chili's and Applebee's as a popular bbq choice. They have Hanks Smoked Briskets on MLK Street ranked #1 for bbq places and ranked #103 out of the 1714 total restaraunts in Indy. Somebody here mentioned Squealers and it's ranked #2 bbq place and #108 overall. Famous Dave's is # 3 for bbq and# 188 overall, and that's a nationwide chain.

All of this data tells me bbq is not that popular in Indianapolis, or else you'd have a bbq place ranked in at least top 25 of all retaranunts.

The #1 ranked overall restaraunt in Indy is Longs Bakery.

When I come to Indianapolis in October, I'm going to check out some of their bbq joints.

There's a lot of mom and pop bbq places and many of those you don't consider to be restaurants. A lot of them tend to be in places people dont go. Bb heaven and king ribs is considered a dangerous adventure to many.
