Don't underestimate the ability of the dems to do just that.

CCC sets the budget which has historically been republican
As far as city finances, IT'S BROKE. Can't get raises for 1st responders, ballard trying to do away with homestead plus extend impd tax to the outer townships (which should have been anyway since impd serves those areas). Tax increase for deep tunnel and of course colts and pacers have their hand out. The city is badly run. Nothing else to sell off. But thank god for that cricket stadium

Why is Ballard hosting a fundraiser in Carmel? Are there no good places in the city he's mayor of to host it?

WISHTV - Ballard raising money for possible re-election bid

There are properties all over Marion County the city has taken over for assorted reasons, be it back-taxes or from the land bank. These properties are now overrun with weeds and some are not boarded up. Why? The city is so broke, simply mowing weeds is too much to ask.

Ballard is the devil incarnate. He's owned and operated by business interests. He's cut public safety and given all the money to the Pacers and hotel developers. Indy is following Detroit's path.

Keep in mind those businesses could also look at another city and mayor for a better deal. It's those businesses that put people to work to become tax payers instead of sucking up more resources from other hard working tax payers. Detroit (the city not metro) has lost more businesses and it's tax base population not Indy.

Unlike previous Republican mayors Ballard is actually one of supporters of light rail in the city. Unfortunately, the state doesn't see it that way. May be he can eventually help convince his party to actually do something about mass transit for the city.

Ballard is OK.

He's a fool and a lightweight, but OK.

He will win re-election because the mayoral election is in a year in which nothing else is going on and the GOP base never misses a chance to vote in an election. The Democrats depend more on voters who may or may not show up. In even-numbered years, the Democrats have better turnout due to races that are of higher profile.

Look at the turnout in 2011. 181K votes in a city of 900K citizens. Pathetic.
