My favorite is that no one batted an eye at releasing $200 million for road construction to widen parts of I-70, I-65 and I-69. Widening those roads won't directly affect everyone either! I know that's only a fifth of the proposed mass transit upgrade, but with light rail out, the cost could come down quite a bit.

We could fill a novel the size of the Lord of the Rings with all the backwards, hypocritical, and mind-boggling things the Indiana legislator does. Best to stop questioning them and try to play ball as best we can to get things done. Dwelling on how stupid they are will not accomplish anything.

I'm too late to edit my original post. But this article has more information than the WISH-TV article does.

Here's the latest update. I saw the article posted yesterday at Indystar --> Indy lands $2M federal grant to plan express bus route

It looks like the red line which will run between Hamilton to Johnson counties will be the first line built for the express bus route. The blue line will be the 2nd phase built which will run between Cumberland from the east ending at the airport.

Here's are rendering of the downtown transit center to open next year. Now it may not be rail but it's a much better improvement then what we currently have. Source: IndyGo | Home | Indianapolis Public Transportation Corporation

I am glad the city is doing what it can to get a head start on this. If the state continues to stand in the way, Indianapolis should build the red line right up to a block south of 96th Street, and have HamCo pick it up on its own and coincidentally just a block north of 96th. The walk in between the two independent systems should be mapped on the two systems as the "Pence Nature Walk"

The Pence Nature Walk could have a retractable roof cover on top in case it rains..maybe throw in a moving sidewalk. I wonder how much all that will cost.
