We are looking for a German play group and connections to other Germans or a German community in the Fishers/Indianapolis area. We are native Germans and just moved to Fishers a week ago. We have an 18month old boy and would love to find new friends for us and for our son.

Thanks a lot!
Conny

Dang! I just left Fishers ... but I'm only half German (mom is from Bavaria). We moved to Columbus Indiana in June. Funny thing is, I've met more Germans here than I ever met when I lived up there. There is a German American Club in Indianapolis. I hope you are adjusting well. There isn't much of a German community per se, it's spread out, but you should contact the club:

Welcome!

Wie Geht's?

Ha, that's my attempt to conjure up a greeting from 3 years of high school German seldom used!!

You might check out Heidelberg Haus on Pendleton Pike. It's a German restaurant where some of the German community hangs out so they can speak fluently with one another. The owners or other locals might be able to point you in the right direction. Plus they have a great Black Forest Cake that makes it worth the trip.

Hi,

I'm not German myself, yet my aunt is full blooded German. She immigrated to the U.S. when she married my uncle. She is older though in her 50's maybe 60's but I could get her number or something if two would like to talk (my uncle speaks fluent German too).

I'm German and will be moving up there soon (well, April/May) with my American husband. No kids yet, but maybe one day Does anyone know any Germans or German get-together groups in Indy? We are looking to move to the Southport area as I hear it is fairly nice and it seems affordable - we'll e coming rom Florida so anything looks cheap in regards to rent

Southport is an excellent choice. That is also where the German Klub is located. A little Indy history: The Merchants Bank in Fountain Square had the most money on deposit because of the huge German population there. This was many years ago and you don't want to live in Fountain Square today.
One place you want to know about is Claus' German Sausage and Meat Market either South Street or Shelby Street.

I grew up on the Southside near the intersection of Meridian (135) and Thompson Road, and there were loads of Germans, many first and second generation, living in that area. For that matter, both my older brother and I worked for some of them in their greenhouse growing operations, like Peaper Brothers, for example.

I don't think there is a specific concentration of them in any one neighborhood, but there are a lot of people of Germanic descent in the general area.

Default German Play Group

I am positively overwhelmed by the German opportunities in Indianapolis.

The place is on 6536 Cornell Ave. - right on the Monon Trail between 65 & 66 th Street - it is a light blue house with a porch around it.
This Sunday there is a German coffee hour - call the store to find out the meeting time.

German School - IGeL Schule - Indianapolis German Language Institute
There are also younger childrens krabble groups - and later school programs.

Herzlich Wilkkommen!
