LA is extremely overrated. Man if you can go anywhere do Central CA. Cheaper up there away from the LA metro. Just don't venture into Bay Area territory.

You can get a 4500-5000 sf McMansion for under 200K in a quiet neighboorhood.

You can get a mansion and still have a LOT of money in the bank, let's put it that way. And better schools, safer living conditions, lower cost of living, all the "toys" you want, and then go back every year and brag about it.

I look at people living in NYC and LA on TV and think, "WHY would anybody want to LIVE in that mess?" You can always visit. Peace

My buddy, making 100k a year in his late 20's left CA solely to the fact that it was so expensive he'd never be able to afford a house.

He moved to the midwest where he still made 100k...and lived like a king. The end.

I was living in the San Francisco area in the late 90s making over $100k/year, and I couldn't afford a house in the area then. A hovel was over $500k at the time.

Everyone I know that owned a house there had a balloon mortgage. It was the only way they could afford it. Essentially, they gambled that they would be able to take advantage of a refinance down the road or sell and make something off the appreciation.

Even in the current market you will be in the top of the market with that kind of money to spend.

home prices are about $100 per sf, give or take. So you can imagine the kind of home you could afford for 650K. Indy isn't as exciting as LA, but you get nice neighborhoods you can afford. Life is generally quiet and safe.

Sitting and wasting life away in traffic isn't exciting. My brother lived in LA for 5 years and it was such a pain to travel there we only visited him 3 times while he was living out there. His commute to work could easily be an hour or more each way. Some days were 2 hours so he would spend well over 15 hours a week in the car. There's are plenty of cities that have lots of exciting things to do without the stress or hassle of LA.

I like LA but i couldn't live there. Hell, I'm getting tired of Cali life. I plan on visiting indy next spring. I will have more than enough money to buy a house but i rather rent an apartment and find work there.
