Reducing the "safety" of a neighborhood to homicide count is stupid, irresponsible, and lazy.

I live in the giant red blob just east of downtown. I've never been shot at, and the most uncomfortable moments I've felt in the city were not in the red area.

Didn't see anywhere where the word "safe" or "safety" was mentioned.

However, highlighting an area red and saying that violence happens on a daily basis when there were 7 to 10 homicides in the entire year is very misleading.

I'm also in the red area east of downtown. If you want to be shot at, it really helps to either break into someone's house or make drug deals.

The large areas aren't really neighborhoods and a homicide count for a partial year isn't a good measure of danger. According to the map, I'm safer walking down 38th Street than I am in my quiet little neighborhood or the coffee shop I go to.
