Vernon to Evansville to I-69 to Crane route. I stopped at a Wal Mart in Evansville and if I had been blindfolded and somebody asked me where I was, I'd say this must be Paradise, Kentucky.

Coming from Mt Vernon you probably stopped at the west side Wal-Mart, which is known locally as the hillbilly area of Evansville. Mod cut.

"Kentucky brand of a Southern accent is a mighty close 2nd" - The bolded is quite an exaggeration, although you have to realize Evansville is the largest city in its region and does attract people visiting from across the river. You do hear Kentucky people and their wonky accents, because, you know, it is across the river and those people do cross the river.
