Thank you, RM. You've been a wealth of info for me on this forum, and I so appreciate all of your local insight. Not being from the area, I would never know to ask about things like this when house hunting!

Here's the article if you want to look it over.

Yep, this is pretty much what I've gathered.

Glad to be of assistance.

I mention the radon thing, as the last home we owned in Indy was a bank sale, so it was sold as-is. As a part of the inspection process we conducted we performed a radon test, which was off the scale, like a 9 when below 1 or 2 is considered safe, if I recall correctly.

Fortunately, the builder had roughed in the piping for a remediation system, so it was only a matter of adding a fan and the required connectors to make it functional. Still wasn’t cheap, but glad we did it.

Good luck!

RM

When I lived in Indiana we lived in a ranch style house that had an aluminum siding and an aluminum roof and never had any problems at all with it. The house was solid. When it rained you could hear the rain hitting on the roof. That made for really good sleeping weather. To this day, I prefer an aluminum or tin roof so I can hear the rain when it hits the roof.

I think vinyl might be considered an upgrade from aluminum, but anybody who looks down their nose at somebody because of what their house is made of just shows what an ignorant snob with an inferiority complex that person is. They think they are taking a shot at you, but they're too blind and ignorant to realize they are actually revealing their very own personal character flaws.
