I know that safety is always a hot topic here. I was looking at the old Bart Lies blog and saw that they now have a map of all the homicides from 2008. They continue to keep up-to-date stats on homicides in the city via a list with complete street address and map button links.

Wow looks like the murder rate is going down a bit. Were not even at 60 yet and were this far in to the year.

Thanks!

What are you talking about? As of July 18, we are at 57 homicides and on pace for 102 for the year.

That sad to hear. If you add up the amount of days we have had this year and divide it by the amount of murders we average 1 every 3 1/2 days. So at this rate we should be around 104 for the year

Though by some standards, the crime in Indy seems horrible, it pales in comparison to New Orleans, where there would typically be 6-7 homicides a week, in a city that is probably only about a third the size of Indy. Granted, it's not a great basis of comparison either, since New Orleans is on the extreme end for crime, but in New Orleans it's hard to live more than two miles from where a homicide has occurred within the past year.

Heard through the grapevine while on the East side today that a 2 year old was shot. Not sure if they died or survived. To me the crime in Indy is just normal compared to any city of similar size.Indianapolis actually has a lower crime rate than the national average for cities that are similar in population to Indianapolis.
