My PC is running at its usual broadband speed, but my laptop which runs off my wireless router the net is very slow and has been like this for the past 24 hours or so. They both run off the same adsl modem and net connection/plan.

Unsure what is going on here, would ring my provider but its not business hours, anyone know what is going on and how to fix it?
have tried restarting wireless router, there are no virus threats on my laptop according to the my avast system which is upto date.

Is the PC wired or wireless? Is your wireless connection secure? What kind of signal strength are you getting on the laptop?

Have you looked at the running processes to see what is hogging up the CPU?

...also connect it to the router via cable and see what happens.
IF it gets better, almost as fast as the desktop then something with the wireless, either a leech or something with the signal from the router, at that point start running some ping/tracert tests, etc.

If there is no change at all, Avast might have missed something?
