Scammers, cops, foreign agents, kids seeking porn - what's the difference? I don't see this as much nanny state as people not using common sense. Getting something illegal traced back to your wi-fi isn't going to be a happy experience for you in any case.

Maybe that area has had a problem with Swatting? If a prankster uses someone's open wifi connection for that, it's very difficult to catch them.

It's no different than protecting people through electrical codes, building codes, traffic laws, also technologies that some are totally clueless about and the harm they could cause.

With the popularity of network printers, either wireless, ethernet, or merely shared on a PC, need to connect and print out instructions on securing their wireless routers.
