There's a little grey x you can press if you don't wanna be squeezed. It's small and not the easiest to notice. Just saying. Hey, I didn't make the interface. I haven't even decided for sure whether I even want this

To be honest, even with a close button, I just leave.

IMO, these type of "give me your info to see my content" things are a huge turn off, and lead me to instantly believe that the content isn't of high enough quality to stand on it's own (thus the owner trying to get my info before showing me the content).

I'm not saying that this is your situation, but that's the basic impression that they give me. I'm not giving any site with articles my contact info. If I want to read more from you, I'll subscribe to your RSS feed, or bookmark your site, but I don't want any more email, and I don't want to be contacted for anything.

I disappear from the website faster than it takes the popup to paint. There are just too many websites available to put up with BS like this....

In theory, it sounds great. Hooray! I can instantly collect a lot of emails for my email marketing efforts!
In practice, everyone is going to close your webpage. I would.
