Beats the trips to library, buying the books and searching for answers. Cost and time saving.
Better cross reference and million results in seconds. You can narrow your searches, define and modify any way you want.
All accessible from your home computer/laptop/phone or whatever...
You can shop, pay your bills, read, play games, listen to music, download programs and apps, watch different sports, learn languages, study in university, take all kind of courses online, learn how to make stuff or fix it, talk with people, ask questions, watch movies etc. without leaving your home.
No library/book store has such huge volume of information available. No movie theater so many movies to choose. No social gatherings such diverse population to socialize. No newstand so many newspapers/magazines to access at the same time ... and all that around the world.
If you don't speak the language, you still can access the info using online translators.
You can email/text people and they get your message in matter of seconds. Try it with the post office
You can share your pictures with anyone you want. You can sell your stuff online, buy currencies, stocks/bonds etc.
You can shop and compare prices in thousand of stores. You can see pictures taken in other countries or continents. You can "travel" using Google maps.
The social sites have enabled people to make new friends from different parts of the world. You can acquire games, movies, music or videos through the downloading software.
You can coordinate and modify your information needs, and access it from any computer or Internet enabled device in the world.

Oh... and SO MUCH more!!! ...

All of that ^^^ and it has broadened my horizons. I've found so many things I had no idea existed, in every category imaginable. I can educate myself in most any topic in minutes, and understand the limitations of what I've learned. As I go through a given day, I see so many things that I want or need to know more about, and that's how I spend some of my free time. The Internet has also allowed me to refine my thinking on so many topics, because every viewpoint is easily found.

A great example is happening right now. I have a gift certificate that I want to sell. In a matter of minutes, through C-D, I:

*Asked if anyone had ideas on how to sell it

*Was told there are online services that do exactly that

*Went to the linked website, and after determining how to search for other sites that do the same thing...

*Checked out those sites

*Found a local place that pays cash for gift cards

*Have what I need to now to make a decision or even handle this Sunday.

In less than ten minutes of working time I went from having no idea of how to sell the card, to knowing the entire breadth of info that is available on selling gift cards. Not only would that take hours, if it was even possible, without the internet, but I am confident that I know all I need to make a smart decision. This happens several times every week.

Easier communication with people all over the world.
Am able to work at home and some of my clients are overseas.
I pay my bills and file my taxes online.
I purchased my insurance online
Found my Realtor online and bought my last two houses by vetting them online before I looked in person.
A good deal of my most recent home purchase was conducted online since I lived 2,000 miles away.
I take care of my elderly mother and I find a lot of the health-related information I need online.
I've chosen doctors for her and myself by information I read online.
I am able to communicate with other caregivers in chat rooms.
Because I'm so tied to my house I am able to do much of my shopping via the Internet.
I've taken courses online.
I follow sports.
I keep track of politics.
I read the newspaper.
I belong to an online book swap organization for my pleasure reading.
I print my postage online.
I've planned every trip I've taken for years online.
I can book tickets for transportation and entertainment.
I check restaurant reviews and make reservations online.
No longer do I have to have a house full of reference books.
I no longer have to own cookbooks.
I play music and stream movies on my computer.
Arguments can be solved quickly finding the correct answer online.
I keep odd hours and I enjoy that interactive sites like this one allow me to have company in the middle of the night.
