Has anyone else seen a message "Would you like to tag [friend]?" when looking at someone else's recently posted photo on social media? It has somehow recognized one of your mutual friends in the photo, and is asking you if YOU want to tag the person.
Why in God's name would I want to tag a friend in someone else's photo? NO!! That's my answer.
Classification. It allows your friend to know they are in a photo. It also makes it easy to find photos of a particular person because they're tagged in it.
If you ever have a quick and unexpected need to compile a bunch of photos of that person, say for a party or heaven forbid... a memorial, you might be glad to have tagged their photos.
But the ultimate goal is DATA MIMING ...... No one should confirm they know anyone!!
By consenting to be on Facebook, you're consenting to be mined. It's right there in its massive TOS. Having Facebook know who my friends are and what they look like is the least of my worries when I'm using the service.
