A lot of standalone desktop versions of messengers have disappeared. First MSN, now Yahoo. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know ANY other standalone messenger apps that you can use on your desktop and still be able to video chat that isn't Facebook or Google or Skype? (I know some people who don't like Facebook or any of these new social networks coming out because of privacy reasons, which is totally understandable) Or are the ones I've named pretty much the be all end all?
This brings back memories for me - people talking about Yahoo Messenger, AIM, and ICQ. I remember leaving my computer on at night, all the while leaving ICQ up, and I'd hear the little ICQ chime all throughout the night. Always seemed to have Japanese girls wanting to chat with me at all times of night, lol! I also used to chat with a girl from Canada a lot as well. Back then, it was fun having "online" friends from all over the globe. Then with Yahoo and AIM, I tend to chat with more of my local friends on that. Well, that and MSN messenger.
Nowadays, I don't use any messenger programs at all except for Skype messenger at work.
I looked @ trillian also many years ago but didnt like it either......
I did find one that was OK but didnt work 100% right....... So I just deleted it and kept my AIM program (It really is the most basic messenger out there)
Another vote for Trillian. It's so simple, and as well as working on my PC, it works on my Kindle.
