Thanks for replies to my postings.

I am from Maryland/Baltimore area.

We paid our dues regularly. Xfility raised our bill exorbitantly (400%). We are not sure, how will we able to meet their demand beyond our means. We did not receive any advance notification about this hike.

We find the high speed internet services in fair range by same provider in other states. We are not sure why AA county residents need to pay more for same services.

We are looking for internet service for basic email/browsing etc. I know some counties make sure, their resident have internet access as affordable.

As Maryland residents, we find difficulties in finding broad band access at fair price.

We do not have Fios/AT&T in our area.

What are the alternates available to have high speed internet for basic email/browsing etc?

Thanks for sharing.

How much were you paying before and how much are you paying now?

If you were on the subsidized internet plan for $10/month and got booted welcome to the real world.

Call them and tell them you want to cancel. They will give you the retention department, tell them you can't afford it and if they can not offer you, (name your rate) you will leave. You don't have to cancel then and there if they say no just say you are switching and will call back to cancel when you are set up with a different provider.

For just browsing and email you should be fine with DSL, you can probably get it with a phone line.

You don't need blazing speed. According to this comparison, Verizon offers basic internet for $30/month:

I share the cost with someone or could not afford it. If I can't share I will go back to the library internet. I can use a laptop in the parking lot at the library 24/7.

Good advice. And I did this with my New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Gannet Papers as well. It falls in the "no harm in asking" rule.

And get the name and ID number if possible of the person you talk to. My cable company promised me a great deal but then they didn't process it. They say they will send a confirmation email in 6 hours, that's just to throw you off your game, we all know emails are instant now adays. So I had to call back and they will honor it. but then they send out confusing statements, mine says the price quoted, but it lists $10 off for only 2 months and I think I will have to call back to get it resolved in 2 months time.
