Just curious what people think it will look like, or some of the new things it will be used for.
I think at some point, someone is going to come along and call for free high speed service for everyone, everywhere. This would benefit the big online retailers mostly, but it would benefit the smaller guys too, this one is probably closer to 10+ yrs away, as the distribution technology needs to progress so this is possible.
Speed is another aspect, I have service thru my phone company, and it is truly unlimited high speed, all the time, as soon as I make the click, the next page comes up instantly, rarely is there any 'buffering'. Im not sure how much faster it really can get, if pages are loading instantly now, how much faster will it be in 10 yrs, and can it even get any faster than it is right now?
Id love to get a look into some of the R&D labs and see some of the stuff they are working on right now! I would also like to see some of the tech that has been purposely suppressed involving internet.
Within ten years, the advertising and video and selective speeds and support for new displays and interaction (perhaps somewhat like the failed google glass) will have changed much of the net to be like walking down the Bowery in the depression with everyone looking to sell Apples and pencils and demanding a handout. The internet superhighway will have plenty of toll roads.
Technology is changing so fast that's pretty hard to predict anything for the next 10 years...
Internet of Things will not only connect our households but most likely vehicles, wallets, health monitors, and perhaps even our paper currency. Businesses and individuals will struggle to adapt to the increasing rate of change. And again, smaller business will be affected, and probably forced to close.
Privacy will be even more invaded and breached....
Historically, few predictions about technological developments proved themselves true, but I think the way we use the Internet may be almost unrecognizable from what we know today.

I think you are spot on.
Unfortunately.
