Am I allowed to search on google images for an avatar to use? Can I also use these images in my posts on instagram? I plan to use my instagram account to deliver information and to educate.
It depends on the photo. Google Images is till just a Search Engine. Whether you can use a picture or not is soley based on the person or entity that owns that image. It has nothing to really do with Google.

Be careful about who owns the image...AND it can look super unprofessional & fake IMO, specially if you are using your account to deliver real information & educate.
It's still a viable platform for education. I do agree with you that TikTok would probably be a more lucrative platform for education these days. But Instagram's reputation is still strong.

Especially if you're looking to make money. I know someone who teaches on TikTok and makes well into 6 figures.
Google steals my photographs on a regular basis, in spite, of copyright laws.
They post them in their search engine, where other people steal them again.
Then Google, allows me to right click in Google Chrome and search the internet for people that are stealing my photograph.
I then send them a bill for stealing my photograph. The photograph usually comes down or I get a check in the mail in short order for the use of my photograph.
There is a lawyer that now makes a great full-time living representing photographers whose work is stolen. He goes after people stealing photographs with deep pockets.
Yes, I have had my photographs stolen by NEWSPAPERS!! and other mass media outlets.
Turnabout should be fair play.
Corporate tech is evil. And they want do everything to PROTECT THEIR COPYRIGHTS, but STEAL EVERYBODIES ELSE's WORK.

This is pure hypocrisy. Going after people who steals photographs for payment and then claiming that stealing their photographs is fair play.
It depends on what the OP is teaching as well as how he/she is representing himself/herself publicly more than the image in and of itself.
