Breaking a currency is such a misnomer anyways. The BOE had a pegged band they wanted to keep and everyone knew it was removed from reality. Soros was just one of many sellers of the Pound, but since he was most noticed he gets the nominal credit for it. Not to mention currency pegs always eventually end badly unless there is a clear path to leaving it. BOE in this case just realized the path the market set for them in quick order.
