What are the pros and cons of Spirit Lake? We are familiar with the area as tourist but are very close to accepting jobs that would allow us to relocate. We are a young, active family and would love to hear from others who have made the move and natives with good insight. We like the area a lot and can't find many cons other than maybe a little isolated, but the upside seems great. Any thoughts and opinions are appreciated.

I've traveled there for business for over 30 years. It wouldn't be very tough to make me live there. Arnolds Park and around Lake Okoboji can get a little much if you live there full time, but even though Spirit Lake is right next door, you're just a little isolated from all the touristy atmosphere. You've also got a pretty decent larger community in Spencer that's not that far away. Sioux Falls is only 90 miles away if you want to go to a much larger city. Even the lake (Spirit Lake) is quite large, but not overrun with tourists like east and west lake Okoboji is.

The locals in the area I've found have always been very friendly. Go for it.

It seems like a nice place for a small town. They've got 2 parks on the lake that are shown on 1875 map.
