For some reason people here think that Iowa is all dry plains with fat toothless residents. From what I see the scenery and people are more attractive than south Florida!

I get frustrated with this stereotype of our state ... but then I think to myself - it's that stereotype that keeps a lot of superficial people out.

Since this has turned into the Iowa Scary Weather Photo Thread, here are a couple of the Mississippi currently leaving its banks in Davenport.


LeClaire Park in downtown Davenport


City crews are building a temporary berm down the middle of River Drive to protect several blocks of downtown.

QCI - your second picture up there reminded me of how much different the dirt looks when you live near the Mississippi. The reddish brown clay is so much different than the black dirt around the rest of the state.
