Is it posible to find a home in the state for the $100,000 mark? The ideal home would be a 4 bedroom 2 bath home with a garage.

Depends on where you want to live. If you get far away from any bigger towns with employment opportunities, then you might pick up 2 of them for that price. Some towns that are losing population and are somewhat depressed would fit the bill too. Even in some of the older parts of Des Moines you might still find something in that range worthwhile. 100K goes a long way in Iowa, but if you want upscale yupster/acerage near Des Moines, better double or triple that.

You'll find fixer uppers in that price range, but no, you'll be very hard pressed to find something new (even foreclosure properties) with 4 bedrooms for under $100,000 in a city in Iowa. It may be more affordable out in the country though.

DMRyan's comments were pretty accurate. Here's a search on an eastern Iowa Realtor site for homes with at least 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms under 100k, and it comes back with 90-some results. Some are in bigger cities (Dubuque and Davenport both have some in the first 10) and some are towns I've never heard of. Some of them look pretty decent and some look like fixer uppers at best. If you only need 2 bedrooms, 100k goes a long way, but for 4 not so much. You also didn't mention what part of the state you were interested in.

Sorry about that QuadCity. I lived in Evansdale back in the mid 1980's and loved it there. Also spent some time in Grinnell and Ceder Rapids. Loved my time in the state. Would love to find a home for occasional visits to the state from time to time. Would not mind an undeveloped property either. At this time just an interest of mine ans nothing serious.

You could get a great place in the country. If you're familiar with the Evansdale area...you might look in to Traer, Hudson, La Porte...I'm sure you could find something with a couple of acres. Good luck.
