Planning a trip to Iowa in the near future. I want to hit all these places, from what I saw on the map I thought this might be this best way to cover all of them in a short amount of time, relatively speaking. Anyone with an idea how long this might take? If anyone else has any other idea traveling about to these places, I'm all ears.

Thanks.

Where are you coming from and ending?

It's all easy traveling on mostly 4 lane roads.

Davenport to Dububue can be done in an hour and 15 minutes or so, 4 lane highway. Davenport to Iowa City is an hour at the most on I-80.

Iowa City to Burlington is a 4 lane road within the past 10 years. Should take around an hour and a half or a little less? I haven't done that one in almost 10 years.

Burlington to Fairfield is an hour or less. I think that's 4 lanes as well.

Iowa has been going strong for the past 15-20 years of widening lots of highways.

It depends on where you're coming from and where you want to end up as far as the route, although I see nothing wrong with this route. It should be very easy driving.

If you want to throw Cedar Rapids into the mix (200,000 in the area), you could go Dubuque to Cedar Rapids (as far as your cities with charm - I always thought Cascade was a pretty cool town between Dubuque and Cedar Rapids on highway 151), then down to Iowa City (only 25 minutes south of Cedar Rapids on I-380). Then from Iowa City head on I-80 to Davenport, then from Davenport drive south out on highway 22 (The Great River Road if I'm not mistaken) then on highway 61 down to Burlington. Then head to Fairfield.

You might like the Great River Road. Some very beautiful scenery, historic river towns, etc. Runs along the Miss. River.

Say hello to my hometown of Iowa City!!!!!

The Great River Road is a great scenic drive! And it'll take you right through LeClaire, which is another town you might check out!

oh dear, iowa is definitely full of gems. though not a part of iowa but someone just informed me from another thread about galena, il and i'm beside myself from the pictures posted.

chicago60614, i was planning on flying into dubuque and rent a car. i believe you can pick it up and drop it off at another location, not sure if fairfield would have that. hmmm, maybe i'll do the river cities including galena, to fairfield and then end up in iowa city. i'll get to drive down the great river road more that way and i'll get to hit leclaire on the way. would be cool to live in a city named 'leclaire', yes i can be shallow.
