A recent convert to Islam who was being questioned about her rather odd jump from staunch Republican, Bush and Beck defending, bible believing Christian to the the religion of Muhammad told one person who was questioning her to read the entire Quran/Koran and the Hadith to get the answers he needs. On the surface, this seems logical and noble with no hints of trying to covert anyone. The implication here is, "Just read the Koran for yourself and you will come to the truth."

There is a Christian member here who exhorts unbelievers to do the same thing when it comes to the Bible, but I notice this often comes AFTER a question or questions have been asked that the believer cannot answer. As with the recent Muslim convert, what I notice is that what they advise, they themselves did NOT do or have not done. In other words, they themselves have not read the entire Koran/Bible and have made a far less educated decision than the person they are advising (if they follow their advice).

How does this work? Why do they do this?

Another words, they believe that if we are dumbed down enough, we will finally believe? I suspect you are right, as I never see anyone quoting their book about the virtues of intelligence and free thinking, it is all about closed minded blind and thoughtless obedience, with fear the controlling factor.

Why do they do this?

Logic, so it seems, is anathema to religion.

Muslim knows his/her religion well But not all Muslims in one degree

Default Why indeed....

Additionally, I often see multiple interpretations of the same biblical scripture section, as determined by the various topical websites. It seems to depend in whether they are focusing on End-Times, or co-existing dinosaurs, or Noah's Ark, or.....

Given that we are admonished to read and listen to the absolute truths of God's Holy Word, how can the scriptures have multiple meanings on a vast range of topics?

If folks are inherently somewhat intellectually lazy, (and we all are to some degree or another...) we may well find it convenient to simply use the determinations, analyses and thinking of others. This will have an unfortunate outcome, because if they do look into the facts in more detail, they will see these contradictions.

Actually, it's how they then deal with such obvious internal spiritual discord and dishonesty that will be the most "telling".

allah said "If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (Submission to Allah), Never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost."(Qur'an 3:85)

It (the Qur'an) is a Book We have sent down to you, full of blessing, so let people of intelligence ponder its Sign and take heed.
The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 38,Verse 29

The revelation of the Quran lasted 23 years. It is inconceivable that any book written by a mortal being in 23 years, one which is a book of Divine truths, metaphysics, religious beliefs and worship, prayer, law and morality, a book fully describing the other life, a book of psychology, sociology, epistemology, and history, and a book containing scientific facts and the principles of a happy life, does not have any contradictory points. Whereas, the Quran openly declares that it has no contradictions at all and therefore is a Divine Book

allah says in quran
If you are in doubt concerning that which We have sent down onto Our servant (Muhammad), then produce a chapter of the like thereof, and call your witnesses, supporters, who are apart from God, if you are truthful. (al-Baqara, 2.23)

in another verse
Will they not then ponder on the Quran? If it had been from other than God they would have found therein much contradiction and incongruity. (al-Nisa’, 4.82)

in another verse
Or do they say: "He (Muhammad(P) has forged it (this Qur'an)?" Nay! They believe not! Let them then produce a recital like unto it (the Qur'an) if they are truthful. [Qur'an 52:33-34]

The Qur’an contains at least the principles of all the branches of knowledge either in summary or detail and not even a single piece of the knowledge it contains has ever been contradicted.

quran dosn't require blind faith
In the creation of the heavens and earth, and the alternation of the night and day, and the ships which sail the seas to people's benefit, and the water which Allah sends down from the sky – by which He brings the earth to life when it was dead and scatters about in it creatures of every kind – and the varying direction of the winds, and the clouds subservient between heaven and earth, there are Signs for people who use their intellect. The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 2,Verse 164

They know an outward aspect of the life of this world but are heedless of the hereafter. Have they not reflected within themselves? Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and everything between them except with truth and for a fixed term. Yet many people reject the meeting with their Lord.
The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 30,Verse 7-8

The likeness of those who disbelieve is that of someone who yells out to something which cannot hear - it is nothing but a cry and a call. Deaf - dumb - blind. They do not use their intellects.
The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 2,Verse 171
