I believe that at one time the Oakland Raiders considered a move to Jackson! I think that it's a swell idea. Consider the revenue it would generate, not to mention all that Raider Nation fun!

The Jackson Raiders! Sounds good to me. I used to go to a lot of their games when they were the L.A. Raiders. Saw Bo Jackson play his last game in L.A. Sure, they're not the effective team they once were, but they're always entertaining.

Mississippi could change the Ross Barnett Reservoir to the Raider Reservoir.

Yes, I'm a Raider devotee and a football addict. If we move to Mississippi, I'd like there to be a football team. Would be another NFC South team?

It would be a very bad idea business wise. The Jackson metro, nor the state of Mississippi doesnt have the population to support an NFL franchise. If you move there, get ready to see alot of the New Orleans Saints.

That was the first thing that occurred to me. Although, I could have sworn that at one time the move was at least under consideration. I thought perhaps it would draw enthusiasts in from the surrounding states and fuel some competitive spirit. Just a thought.

Love watching the Saints too.

I doubt a professional NFL football team will move to Jackson or Mississippi, and if it should ever happen, it would be in the Mississippi suburbs of Memphis. Jackson is too close to New Orleans, and the population is relatively small to support 2 big-time NFL teams in such close proximity. My guess for the next city to get a NFL franchise will be in the Austin / San Antonio area, whose population is greater than the entire state of Mississippi, and one of the fastest growing regions in the country, if not the fastest growing region in the country.

Your post makes sense. Simply not practical economically or geographically.

Thanks for your input!

Its no big deal. I sometimes wish Birmingham had an NFL franchise, but there are two within easy driving distance so its not likely to happen.

The only way it would happen is if the I-20 corridor were to have a boom. I think it would be great for 'sip but probably will never happen.

Yes. After my Sunday morning football hysteria wore off I took a closer look at a map and sure enough—Mississippi is surrounded by a whole constellation of teams within a reasonable driving distance. Of course, there's nothing wrong with watching games on TV either, it's just nice to have a home football team to root for, even a bad football team is fun. It's a thrilling sport—makes you forget all your cares!

Here in CA we would have to drive to San Diego to go to a Chargers game. Navigating even that short distance, (about 2 hrs.) has become like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride at Disneyland!

Most of metro Jackson supports the New Orleans Saints. The saints come on every Sunday and New Orleans is only about two hours from Jackson. GEAUX SAINTS. Anyways the Jackson metro area is not large enough to support a professional football let alone any of the other 3 major sports. I also remember the L.A. Raiders. I remember my mom not letting me wear their apparel because it was gang affiliated in my city. I remember some teenagers got shot at Six Flags Magic Mountain for wearing L.A. Raiders gear back in the day.

Isn't that a shame? Did you live in Long Beach? I vaguely remember an incident or two involving some skirmishes that were related to Raider apparel in the 1990's & 1980's? Evidently Raider wear isn't as provocative as it was back then. I see all kinds of Raider fans wandering around wearing the silver & black shirts, hats, etc.

Your mom did the right thing! I wouldn't have let you wear it either! That's how mothers are. I live in Lakewood, CA., right on the border of Long Beach.

Have to add that I did see a good many Raider Fans at games who dressed their kids/infants in teeny-tiny Raider outfits. Actually, for the most part, the games were pretty safe. Wildly enthusiastic, but safe. I think it has been around 15 or 16 years since they left L.A.
