Just wanted to pop back in and thank everyone again for all the great advise. We didn't even have time to get to Madison for a house hunting trip! Thankfully, we found a house online to rent. I quickly learned that homes zoned for Madison schools don't stay available very long. My youngest will go to Madison Middle, the 9th grade center, and then Madison Central High. The schools look great! We'll rent for a year and then purchase once we know the area a little better.

We are moving from St Johns, Florida. Packers come Thursday. Movers come Friday. We'll see you on August 1st! Thanks again for all the help!

Congrats on finding a place, magnoila!

Beyond this, about liberals. The Fondren and Belhaven neighborhoods (in Jackson itself, near the University Medical Center) are the least conservative areas of the state, with the possible exceptions of the coastal cities of Biloxi and Bay St. Louis. Together they are adequately sizable so that if you get involved in the local arts and general culture scene, you should find a good sized selection of like-minded souls to choose from. True, Jackson is not Miami or Atlanta or the big Texas cities, or even New Orleans or Memphis, but it sure isn't Meridian or Greenville either.

Madison Central is a great school. I graduated from there in '04. When I was there is was "The School". Before they built Ridgeland High and Germantown, we all went to Madison Central. We had over 2,500 students but it was a great experience. Any sport you can think of we had. Except for ice hockey. The new highschool, (Germantown?), is also great.
