There were a couple of old threads that I didn't bother to revive asking about dinner cruises and/or day cruises. Instead, I've just started a new one.

With the Jacksonville area being so water oriented you'd think that charter cruising opportunities would be in abundance - not so. But we did find one yesterday that we highly recommend. It's out of St. Marys (about 1/2 hour or so north of downtown Jax, so not far), and it's a 43' sailboat, the Dream, that can take up to 6 passengers. Rates are really cheap, and "Captain Roger" is quite flexible about tailoring a cruise to whatever you want/need.

Dream Cruises LLC: Home Page

We spent yesterday afternoon sailing the St. Marys River to Cumberland Sound, over to Fernandina, and then back along Cumberland Island back to port. Roger's wife Linda, a gracious hostess, served up a delicious guacamole dip about mid-trip. We saw dolphins and a couple of manta rays jumping out of the water (why they breach the surface is unknown, but it's spectacular). We didn't see any of the horses on Cumberland Island. Nor did we see any manatees or loggerhead turtles on our trip, but they're out there and it's not unusual to see them.

A great trip and we'll be booking another soon.

I'll throw this in:

Capt Kevin McCarthy's Amelia River Cruises
These guys have been around for years.
We are doing a dinner cruise with them in July.

Glad you added that! In fact, Captain Kevin's name came up yesterday. They know each other and have some sort of work-together plan if someone wants to charter the Dream for more than 6 people (such as for a wedding). As I understand it somehow both boats will cruise together or something like that.

The Pirate cruise is probably much fun IF you have kids. If you want something a little more quiet, there is a schooner that sails several times a day out of the St Aug marina, including a sunset cruise. Depending on the tides and wind, they will also go out of the bayfront into the ocean. It's a blast, and includes unlimited beer, wine and soda.

The pirate cruise website says Friday and Saturday evening cruises are adult only.
