I just saw an interesting announcement:

//www.city-data.com/forum-contest/

Cool! You know, considering how many questions I ask I think there's a good chance one of you could get $5000.

I know it takes time to answer my endless questions so I'm really happy to see city-data rewarding the people who go out of their way to help people like me out.

Also, this gives me a chance to say thanks for answering all my questions, and if you have any additional info or links that you think might help me by all means post 'em! Here are some topics I need to know about: insects--tax issues--insurance--neighborhood boundaries--bridges--traffic--medical care--issues for seniors--where to kayak--where to shop--good places to volunteer--places to meet friends--coffee shop to hang out in the morning--links to news stories and other resources--photos of the area--maps--development projects for the future--political issues--anything you can think to tell me about St. Augustine and nearby areas is appreciated. Oh--and maps. I love maps. Any maps you can post (showing anything to do with the area) would be most appreciated.

I'm one big sponge that wants to soak in as much information as possible. And if somebody on this forum gets a prize for helping me out, that would be cool! .

Heh heh you've gotta point there! I think maybe I'll spend the next several days reading through the older threads on this forum and then by Tuesday I should have questions a mundo. Meanwhile if you come across some great maps or photos or links, stick 'em aside and after Tuesday we can have a resource feast.

I just bought a new Nikon DSLR last night and am taking it with me to St Augustine this weekend to break it in. So I will have photo's galore.

This contest sounds like an invitation to be obnoxious.

I suppose... if you think it's obnoxious to post data and helpful information. That's what's being rewarded, after all.

$5,000? Wow, this site must have a pretty good revenue stream to offer that!

I remember when I first joined (circa fall '07) they did promotions like random $100 gift cards to their poster of the week who was giving informative posts. I'm sure their traffic is really high on this site as is...it's really just a goodwill gesture.

Hmmm!!! The lack of a contest before has never seemed to stop some people.

I am curious to know who is going to read through all the posts on these forums to determine what is uniquely useful. Will they also be verifying if the information is true? IMO the contest will just encourage some posters to post endlessly.
